4 ways to love yourself more this valentines day , binge eating recovery, how to stop overeating

I felt so ashamed when I looked in the mirror!! “I’m a failure because I can’t Stop Eating” I remember saying to myself over and over again, I would even make a joke about it to my friends, “here I go, eating my feelings, again”

That kind of self talk started spilling into other areas of my life, I felt unworthy to ask for promotions, I would stay in jobs where I was expect to work ridiculous hours with no overtime payment, I stayed because I felt I wasn’t worthy of finding something better.

The old me didn’t believe in fluffy things like self love? “Who needs self-love, what a crock of shit?” I would say.  Deep down I resisted self love because I felt I wasn’t worthy of love, especially being loved by myself.

Fast forward 3 years and I get it now, it’s not about bubble baths and massages, its about allowing yourself space in your life for yourself!!

Self-love is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

Being in love with yourself provides you with self-confidence, self-worth and it will generally help you feel more positive.

What I have learnt is that you cannot go on hating yourself for overeating when your self loathing remarks most probably caused the binge in the first place!!

Let’s change that today and invite some self-love into your valentines day!!

Not sure how to even begin? Here are some of the steps I took to mean my relationship with myself through small acts of self-love.

  1. Forgive yourself for being so hard on yourself, for talking to your body like she’s your worst enemy, for being mean and judgmental of yourself.
  2. Create healthy boundaries by saying no to things and people that do not serve you. Yes hurting their feelings might be a possibility but it will save you a lot of energy.
  3. Celebrate your successes, we are so focused on the negative or how our hips look in our pants that we forget all the other great accomplishments in our life, or even day to day lives. start celebrating all your achievements, it feels good and you deserve to feel proud about what you are capable of!!
  4. Make time for yourself, maybe this is in the form of a morning or evening routine where you allocate some time to decompress and take care of your body and mind.
