The diet industry would like you to believe that if we fixed our outer appearance, we will find happiness.Has this worked for anyone? I don’t think so.
You might have guessed it from my previous episodes, but food and body freedom is an inside job. In this episode, we will see just how deep we need to go to manage our urges and finally heal from food and body issues.

The Diet industry would like you to believe
That if you are thin, then all your problems will go away and you will be happy, it’s literally their argument for weight loss. From my own experience and my work with my clients struggling with eating disorders and emotional eating, I know that weight loss only changes your outward appearance, there is no change to self-esteem or levels of overall life satisfaction.
Yes, there might be a fleeting celebration because the number has gone down on the scale but the feeling does not last because the real reason for our bodies protecting us with fat in the first place is not addressed in weight loss.
In fact, pursuing weight loss leads to further body dissatisfaction, more deprivation, and eventually a binge.

Thoughts or perceptions that our bodies are not good enough on the conscious levels lead us to access memories of body shame and false diet knowledge from the subconscious level. These memories, thoughts and perceptions validate limiting beliefs, letting us think that dieting and weight loss will be the answer to our problems.
If we truly want to heal from our eating disorder habits, we need to delve deep into the dark ocean of our unconscious mind.
This can be scary, and that’s why we prefer to binge instead of facing our deepest wounds.
Using Mindfulness to Treat Binge Eating Disorders
Mindfulness is often overlooked as a strong tool to reduce comfort eating and many studies have shown great promise for using mindfulness as part of the treatment of eating disorder recovery.
According to neuroscience research, mindfulness practices dampen activity in our amygdala and increase the connections between the amygdala and prefrontal cortex. Both of these parts of the brain help us to be less reactive to stressors and to recover better from stress when we experience it
