Ep 52– Stel Coombe-Heath: Binge eating recovery and self-love

Binge Eating Disorder: Simple Ways to Practice Self-Love
For those recovering from an eating disorder, taking time for self-care is an especially important part of recovery

I felt so ashamed when I looked in the mirror!!

“I’m a failure because I can’t Stop Eating” I remember saying to myself over and over again, I would even make a joke about it to my friends, “here I go, eating my feelings, again”

That kind of self-talk started spilling into other areas of my life, I felt unworthy to ask for promotions, I would stay in jobs where I was expecting to work ridiculous hours with no overtime payment, I stayed because I felt I wasn’t worthy of finding something better.

The old me didn’t believe in fluffy things like self-love? “Who needs self-love, what a crock of shit?” I would say. Deep down I resisted self-love because I felt I wasn’t worthy of love, especially being loved by myself.

Self-love is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

Not sure how to even begin? Here are some of the steps I took to mend my relationship with myself through small acts of self-love.

Self-Love in Binge Eating Recovery

Self-love for binge eaters

The old me didn’t believe in fluffy things like self love? “”Who needs self-love, what a crock of shit?”” I would say. Deep down I resisted self love because I felt I wasn’t worthy of love, especially being loved by myself.

Fast forward 3 years and I get it now, it’s not about bubble baths and massages, it’s about allowing yourself space in your life for yourself!!

Self-love is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

Being in love with yourself provides you with self-confidence, self-worth and it will generally help you feel more positive.

What I have learnt is that you cannot go on hating yourself for overeating when your self loathing remarks most probably caused the binge in the first place!!

Let’s change that today and invite some self-love into your life!!

Not sure how to even begin? Here are some of the steps I took during binge eating recovery to mend my relationship with myself through small acts of self-love.

✨Forgive yourself for being so hard on yourself, for talking to your body like she’s your worst enemy, for being mean and judgmental of yourself.

✨Create healthy boundaries by saying no to things and people that do not serve you. Yes hurting their feelings might be a possibility but it will save you a lot of energy.

✨Celebrate your successes, we are so focused on the negative or how our hips look in our pants that we forget all the other great accomplishments in our life, or even day to day lives. start celebrating all your achievements, it feels good and you deserve to feel proud about what you are capable of!!

If this resonated with you, for this week only I am giving away some 15 minute market research calls where I am going to ask you a few questions around challenges you are facing, where you want to take things with eating and food & then give you some tangible tips at the end of the call in exchange for your time. So if you want to hop on that & get free coaching from me, Send me a message via the chat function & we can put some time on the calendar.
